Topic MFL Trial Auction Message Board / New Rules -- On hold (63 hits)

Commissioner Date Sat Jun 21 4:20:17 p.m. ET 2008 Edited Sat Jun 21 9:04:37 p.m. ET 2008
These rules are not yet being enforced.

Pasted from our FBG thread:

Here's what I'm going to try to push through... basically, Hook's idea. No more nominating until we're down to 11. Whoever wins the player who reduces us to 11 may nominate a 12th. No one else may nominate until they win a player. As of Monday, the clock will no longer reset for the highest bidder. It will be a 24 hour countdown on all 12 players.

Please respond in this thread with a yay or a nay with an explanation.  We are tinkering with this to see what works best.  But I don't want to ruffle feathers in the process, so speak now or... well, one way or another let's discuss it.  Also, check the FBG thread for the background discussion if you're wondering why the changes.

i'll roll with it, but I think not resetting the clock is dumb. The point of doing a slow auction is that not everyone is around at once. Doing it this way gives a huge advantage to those that are around when the players time runs out.

I agree with wannabe.  WAY TOO much advatge to those who can log in more often. I'd rather have 20-25 auctions going at once then a strict 24 hour clock.
I suspect that things would pick up significantly after the first week or so.

Are we in a rush?

I don't agree with the no clock reset  rule.

Yeap.. I liked it the way it was...

Actually, I agree w/ the no clock reset.. kind of like ebay.  If I were to run a league like this.. I would give a 3 day window instead of 24 hrs.

Okay, maybe Cook and I are impatient and just need to give these settings a little more time.  I won't change the rules with that run of nays.

Hmmm, interesting compromise there KH.  I would like to try some different things.  The problem with the three day wait is it will take 54 days.  The 24 hour countdown take 18.  Of course both can be sped up late in the draft to save a few days.  Maybe gradually shortening the countdown over the course of the auction would improve both.

Your off on your timing thoughts anyway. No way anybvody could nominate their next player minutes after winning one...you'd have an average lag of (I'd guess) five hours or so...meaning you're a week off on your estimate assuming never more then 12 at once, and a hard 24 hour clock.

I think this will pick up pace on it's own, but the only way we even have a prayer to finish by the 4th is with 20-25 players up at once (maybe more).

Pre-nominate, like predrafting would solve that.  There's so much MFL could do to improve this.  Anyway, I had other ideas (@fbg) to speed it up at the halfway point and believe we can finish this under 18 days (with the new or old rules), and maybe by the 4th.  Some report getting through it that fast.

The original anarchy rules still apply.  Nominate as you please.  I'm enjoying this auction.  Just looking for ways to improve it to the point that those used to live auctions and snakes wouldn't revolt.  The guys in the league I want converted would not go for this.  But we're picking up steam.

I didn't nominate after winning McFadden, so I guess I'll toss another log on the fire.

CC, the auction league I have told you about basically uses these rules. 12 teamer with each team nominating 2 players from the start. This gives a total of 24 players on the board. Every time a player is won, and we use a 24 hour clock that does not reset unless a higher bid is made, the owner who won the player is required to nominate a new player within 24 hours. The commish does monitor all this along with help from the other owners.;-) As the auction moves along and teams fill up, the clock is reduced to  hours and the commish allows more nominations to increase the total of players on the board. Of course we have all been doing this for a few years so it works pretty smoothly, but we do use mfl.com. We could do the same thing here but it just requires all of us to be a little more vigilant that we might normally be.

I have been in two kinds of auctions.............

I would never ever ever again join an auction that reset the clock with every single new bid.

I like proxy Ebay style where I can put a 60 bid on someone and the timer only changes if you bid over 60.

It gets very frustrating.....otherwise.  I also would not join any that make you wait longer than 24 hrs.  Again,
just way to frustrating.

Just my opinions....there are leagues out there to satisfy everyone.  Even me...can you believe it!
KellysHeroes Date Sun Jun 22 8:19:11 a.m. ET 2008
I agree... the pt of proxy is to put in the highest ur willing to go.  The software will then get u the best bargin.  Put the the time on 48hrs, allow to put up 30 or so people and this will go by faster
