b.      Commish Costs/BZFF Board Hosting: $30

Maybe this has already been covered....but what exactly does this mean?

I commish 2 leagues and have never even thought about paying myself out of the league pot to be the commissioner.

What the heck is the BZFF?
Commissioner Date Sat Jan 3 5:39:11 a.m. ET 2009 Edited Sat Jan 3 5:43:04 a.m. ET 2009
I run about 15 leagues.  Some I am in as an owner, some I am not and run.  The ones that I am not in do not payout the full 100%.  Since I am joining this league this season though the payouts will increase to a full 100% - MFL fees payout.

I provided a service and started up 4 dynasty leagues last year for people to join (Don Shula, A, B, C) much like AntSports, etc. though those pay out only 87.5% mine have paid out 97-97.5%.  Any league though that I am an owner in pays out a full 100% which this will next season.

Old (New)
1st: $440 ($448)
2nd: $220 ($224)
3rd: $137.50 ($140)
4th: $82.50 ($84)
5th: $55 ($56)
6th: $27.50 ($28)
Eff: $27.50 ($28)
PTS: $110 ($112)

Was this explained ever?  Because I don't remember seeing anything or hearing anything about this at all this year.

What exactly is the BZFF Board Hosting?  I just found the link in the League Links.....I don't see anything on that site that would be worth us paying any money for.  It just looks like some basic league information.  And you aren't hosting the league there (like Ants does), so I'm not sure how that would be something we should be paying for.

I understand that we won't be paying this year because you joined the league.....but it just seems wrong to me to charge a league to run it without that being upfront in the original FBG thread.

The payouts were first posted when the league was forming at FBG: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=395969&hl=

The rule should not say BZFF Board Hosting, I used to have a board about 2 years ago but it has since gone away with since everyone preferred the MFL Message Boards as opposed to a FBG-like message board.  It's not the physical site but the time and energy put into running the league over the course of the year that I ran my leagues at 97.5% since I was not an owner with a chance to win prize money.  I do agree 100% that someone with a chance at winning anything and that runs it should not receive anything and pay out 100%.  I have been in leagues where the commish does not and I have quit those leagues.

The league rules, site, and payouts were all given at that time.  I also know that I sent out e-mails in regards to this back prior to the season starting and from PM's when people inquired about the league.

From the FBG thread:

Hi, I currently commish 5 dynasty leagues (1 is finishing it's 3rd season with just 1 team turned over in 3 years). Leagues consist of primarily FBG members so the leagues are competitive.

Yeah, I know what the original post said.  I saw the payouts.  What I'm saying is.....is that the original league thread at FBG never mentioned ANYTHING about commissioner fees.  I had no idea you weren't in the league until right before the draft.   And that's when I thought, "why would someone want to commish a league they aren't even in?"

It makes sense now that I've seen that $30 fee....to make money.

I'm all for earning some dollars, but that piece of info should have been in the original league thread.  Had it been, I'd have passed on this league.  Although, now that it's no longer an issue with you joining the league, I'm still in.

For the record, I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers here.  It's just that, in my opinion, if you are going to advertise a league you should include information such as commissioner fees.....in the future.  Info like that is pretty important.

Everyone paid him $2.50 ($30/12 teams) to run this league.  Since he's not in the league and he still has to make posts, keep up with everything, and do regular commish duties, I dont see a problem with that.  Just my opinion...

I never said it was a problem.  It should have just been something that was stated in the league posting on FBG before we all signed up.  Maybe it's just me, but I don't want to be in leagues where the commissioner isn't in the league.  If he's not in the league, why would he care as much about it's well being?  I'm not questioning our commish on that, but think about it.  What's to keep that commish, who is not part of the league, from just folding it one year because he's tired of dealing with it or for whatever reason?

My point in all of this is that it wasn't something known upfront.  Is $30 a big deal?  No.  I'm a commish.  I know the headaches involved (he's probably underpaid).  But commishing a league where you aren't even a member is not the norm, so info regarding that should have been made available before the league starting accepting owners.  I didn't even know he wasn't in the league until right around the draft.

Everything is fine now, because he's in the league.  But, I was just saying, in the future he should probably include that info in his league starting posts.  I'd be willing to bet that the league would get less of a response with that info known.

As commish, can't you see everyone's blind bid waivers, trade offers, etc?  That's why I always thought it was nice having someone who wasn't in the league running it.  The commish could use that to his advantage when making his own blind bid waiver requests if he sees you put $15 blind bid on Greg Camarillo, he could put $20 and outbid you.  I may be wrong, but I think you can view every teams transactions as commish....

Yes, it is possible. However, a good commish knows there is a setting you can turn on to block yourself from seeing all pending owner transactions. And as an added security measure, if the commish were to change this setting MFL emails everyone in the league to let them know.

The other side of this is why would you want to be in a league where you didn't trust the commish anyway?

Correct, there is an option to block from seeing pending transactions.
Sweetness_34 Date Mon Jan 5 2:28:12 p.m. ET 2009
I think the Commish should just pay 50% of the $30 to the league champ since this was not originally mentioned :-P

I got hosed :-(
